Food for Growth Project

Posted 23rd June 2022

‘This is the best trip ever!’ was what Mrs Byrne heard repeatedly from a group of year 10 and 9 catering students who took part in the Food for Growth project. The day started with an introduction to the La Salle hotel school kitchen garden; the students tasted a wide range of vegetables, herbs and even edible flowers! We took some time to consider environmental problems and started to think about our own climate pledge and what we can do to make a difference - watch this space for more on this.

The afternoon was then spent at Mysercough College, speaking to staff and students, seeing their kitchen garden but also the animals there. One highlight certainly was the apiarist (bee keeper) taking the honey out just as we arrived - cue lots of excited students tasting fresh, warm honey straight out of the hive in 28c heat. We’re all looking forward to our second day of the project next week.
