Semi-Finalists at Debate Mate National Finals

On Thursday 17 June, our incredible debate team travelled to London to compete in the Debate Mate Cup National Finals.
Departing from Liverpool in the early hours of the morning, we made our way to the capital, raring to compete with the best teams in the country. The venue was impressive – the 37th floor of a 1000-foot skyscraper.
For the first round, we competed against a veteran London team who put up a real fight. Through hard work and determination, we managed to score enough points to reach the semi-finals.
During the next round, we came up against our toughest competition yet. We put on an incredible performance, and although we had done everything we could to secure a victory, we didn’t score enough points to reach the grand finals. Despite this, we still managed to finish as one of the top 8 schools in the entire country.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their experience and received some extremely positive feedback from the judges. We now have three weeks to perfect our debating skills before we return to London for the Urban Debate League National Finals on 5 July.
