Year 10 student shares his experiences of the D-Day Commemorations
Posted 18th July 2024
In June, Matthew Appleton from Year 10 took part in the D-Day anniversary commemorations in Normandy and this week spoke to classes in Year 7-9 about the events, his knowledge of D-Day as well as what it is like to be a cadet. He showed confidence, knowledge and empathy beyond his years and left pupils feeling inspired. He was an inspiring speaker and as well as sharing stories about the cadets he also shared with pupils life lessons about believing in yourself, taking responsibility and showing compassion for others.
During the year we have had many speakers into school and the History department can honestly say Matthew has been one of the best in terms of how he engaged the class with his honesty and humility. Such was his popularity he ended up speaking to four classes in the lecture theatre during P5 and took it all in his stride to deliver another excellent talk. A real credit to himself, the cadets and the school.
Thanks Matthew!
